Bair Hugger Cage Runs Extension for Large-Breed Kennels
Extension adapter for Bair Hugger cage passthroughs. Bridges the greater distance through floor-to-ceiling veterinary cage runs for large and giant breed recovery patients. Modular design, no reinstall between cage types.
Specifications
Compatibility
- VetBog Cage Passthrough Adapter (required base)
- Shor-Line floor-to-ceiling cage runs (78" height)
- Standard veterinary kennel run gates
The Problem
Floor-to-ceiling cage runs, typically 78 inches tall, house your largest recovery patients: post-orthopedic dogs, abdominal surgery cases, and giant breeds. These are often the patients who need active warming the most, because larger surgical procedures mean longer anesthesia time and greater heat loss.
But standard cage passthrough adapters are designed for compact cage bank doors. Cage run gates are taller, wider, and configured differently. The distance from the outside of a run gate to where the patient lies on the floor is significantly greater than in a standard cage. Without a dedicated solution, staff either skip warming large patients in runs entirely, or resort to the same propped-door workarounds that don’t work on smaller cages, and are even more dangerous on runs where large dogs can push through a partially open gate.
The Solution
The Runs Extension connects directly onto the base Cage Passthrough Adapter, extending it to bridge the greater distance through floor-to-ceiling run gates. The modular design means you don’t need separate adapters for each cage type. One base adapter plus one extension covers your entire facility.
Leave base adapters permanently installed on your standard cages. When a patient in a run needs warming, attach the extension to a second base adapter mounted on the run gate. Full modular coverage: standard cages and runs, no reinstallation between patient types.
Requirements
This product requires the Cage Passthrough Adapter (base), sold separately. The extension cannot be used standalone.
What’s in the Box
- 1× Runs Extension Adapter (PETG)
Installation
- Ensure base Cage Passthrough Adapter is positioned on the run gate
- Align extension with base adapter connection point
- Connect Bair Hugger hose
- Wrap 2 layers of vet wrap around the hose-to-adapter connection to seal any small air gaps
Tip: Two layers of standard vet wrap at the hose connection point eliminates minor air gaps and maximizes thermal efficiency.

Frequently Asked Questions
What does the Runs Extension do?
It connects onto the base Cage Passthrough Adapter to bridge the greater distance through tall floor-to-ceiling kennel runs, typically 78 inches. Standard cage adapters are sized for compact cage bank doors, so runs need the extra reach to get warm air down to a patient lying on the run floor.
Can I use the extension on its own?
No. The extension is not a standalone product. It requires the VetBog Cage Passthrough Adapter as its base, sold separately. The extension snaps onto that base to add length for run gates.
Which Bair Hugger and cage systems does it work with?
It works through the same base adapter, so it fits the 3M Bair Hugger Model 675 and older model series and most forced-air warming units with a standard hose diameter. It is built for Shor-Line floor-to-ceiling cage runs and standard kennel run gates.
Do I need a separate base adapter for each run?
Leave base adapters installed on the cages and run gates you use most. When a large or giant breed patient in a run needs warming, attach the extension to the base adapter on that run gate. One base plus one extension covers both standard cages and runs without reinstalling anything.
How do I clean the extension?
Wipe it with isopropyl alcohol as needed. The PETG resists most clinical cleaning solutions. It is not autoclave safe.
