Compatibility

  • 3M Bair Hugger Model 675
  • 3M Bair Hugger standard model series
  • Shor-Line stainless steel cage systems
  • Standard veterinary recovery cage doors
  • Most forced-air patient warming units with standard hose diameter

The Problem

Anesthetized patients lose body heat rapidly, and small dogs and cats are especially vulnerable due to their high surface-area-to-body-weight ratio. The 2020 AAHA Anesthesia and Monitoring Guidelines recommend active warming for dogs under anesthesia longer than 20 minutes. For the clinical background, see our post-operative hypothermia guide.

Forced-air warming systems like the 3M Bair Hugger are standard equipment in veterinary clinics. But routing the warming hose into a recovery cage creates a problem no manufacturer has solved: the hose either hangs loose through the cage bars (losing heat to the room), gets pinched by the cage door (reducing airflow), or requires the door to stay partially open, creating an escape risk for groggy, post-anesthetic patients.

Clinics improvise with tape, towels, and propped-open doors. None of these are reliable, repeatable, or sanitary.

The Solution

The VetBog Cage Passthrough Adapter creates a sealed port in your veterinary recovery cage door for the Bair Hugger hose. The adapter seats into the ventilation slot of standard stainless steel cage doors and routes the warm air into the cage instead of letting it spill into the room, all while the cage door stays fully closed and latched.

Compatible with 3M Bair Hugger Model 675 and older standard model series, Shor-Line cage systems, and most forced-air patient warming units with standard hose diameters.

Different clinics call it different things: a Bair Hugger cage attachment, a kennel warming adapter, a cage door port. Whatever the name, it does one job, and it does it without tape or a propped-open door.

Install once. Leave permanently mounted. Connect the hose when you need to warm a patient, disconnect when you don’t.

Need to warm patients in floor-to-ceiling cage runs? Add the Cage Runs Extension for full modular coverage across all cage types in your clinic.

What’s in the Box

  • 1× Cage Passthrough Adapter (PETG)

Installation

  1. Position adapter against the cage door ventilation slot
  2. Connect Bair Hugger hose to adapter inlet
  3. Wrap 2 layers of vet wrap around the hose-to-adapter connection to seal any small air gaps
  4. Verify airflow through cage-side outlet

Tip: Two layers of standard vet wrap at the hose connection point seals any small air gaps so the warm air ends up in the cage, not the room. This is the same technique used in our own clinic daily.

Care & Cleaning

Wipe with isopropyl alcohol as needed. Not autoclave-safe. PETG is resistant to most clinical cleaning solutions.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does this Bair Hugger cage adapter fit the Model 675?

Yes. It is sized for the 3M Bair Hugger Model 675 and connects to its standard warming hose. It also works with older Bair Hugger model series and most other forced-air warming units that use a standard hose diameter.

What cages and kennel doors does the adapter work with?

It seats into the ventilation slot of standard stainless steel veterinary cage and kennel doors, including Shor-Line cage systems. If your recovery cages have the typical horizontal slot venting, the passthrough fits.

Do I still need a warming blanket inside the cage?

The adapter routes warm air from your Bair Hugger through the closed cage door. You can direct that warm air into the cage or into a forced-air warming blanket inside the cage, whichever your recovery protocol uses. The adapter is the connection point, not the blanket itself.

Can I leave the cage door attachment installed permanently?

Yes. Install it once and leave it mounted. Connect the Bair Hugger hose when you need to warm a patient and disconnect when you do not. The cage door still closes and latches fully with the adapter in place.

How do I warm a large dog in a floor-to-ceiling run?

Run gates sit farther from the patient than compact cage doors. Add the Cage Runs Extension, which connects onto this base adapter to bridge the extra distance through 78-inch floor-to-ceiling kennel runs.

What colors does the cage passthrough come in?

Black, White, and Blue. Custom colors are available with a minimum order of four units.

How do I clean it, and is it autoclave safe?

Wipe it down with isopropyl alcohol as needed. The PETG is resistant to most clinical cleaning solutions. It is not autoclave safe, so do not heat sterilize it.
